Penguin Random House Children’s to publish picture book with astronaut Tim Peake

Penguin Random House UK Children’s are delighted to announce the upcoming publication of Goodnight Spaceman, a new picture book that has been produced in collaboration with the European Space Agency and astronaut Tim Peake, publishing on 7th April 2016.

Goodnight Spaceman, written by Michelle Robinson and illustrated by Nick East, is inspired by astronaut Tim Peake’s mission and his own young sons, Oliver and Thomas, who watched their father, along with the rest of the UK, launch into space in December.

Tim Peake, ESA’s first British astronaut, said: “Goodnight Spaceman is a delightful book that tells the story of two children, just like my sons, who dream of joining their dad on his adventures in space. I hope it may inspire a new generation of boys and girls to look up at the stars and not just ask questions but to go and seek answers of their own.”

Francesca Dow, Managing Director at Penguin Random House Children’s, said: “We couldn’t be more excited to be publishing Goodnights Spaceman in collaboration with our partners at ESA. We are thrilled to be working closely with both ESA and the UK Space Agency, as together we can both excite children about space discovery, whilst harnessing their love of reading. We feel honored to be part of the wider Principia mission and the fantastic work that Tim Peake is doing.”

Margherita Buoso, ESA Head of the Communication Unit in the UK, said: “Congratulations to Michelle Robinson and Nick East for the fantastic book. Through this partnership with Penguin Random House, we hope that children will not only dream of a better planet but help shaping it themselves. Tim’s mission is all about peaceful international collaboration for science and technology. We wish to see the book translated into other languages.”

Goodnight Spaceman by Michelle Robinson, illustrated by Nick East and with a foreword by Tim Peake, will be published in paperback by Puffin Books on 7th April 2016.
