Aaron Young was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, and read Politics and Communications at The University of Liverpool. He is a BAFTA-nominated director, producer and executive producer with over 20 years of experience across projects for the BBC, PBS, Channel 4, Channel 5, UKTV, UK Film Council and Arts Council England. A long-time collaborator of acclaimed historian, James Holland, he is the producer and director of the BAFTA-shortlisted BBC titles ‘Battle of Britain: The Real Story’ and, ‘Dam Busters: The Race to Smash the German Dams’, as well as ‘The Battle for Malta’, ‘Normandy ’44: The Battle Beyond D-Day’, the RTS-nominated ‘Imphal &amp; Kohima: Britain’s Greatest Battle.’, and the 3-part series, 'Normandy '44: D-Day and the Battle for France. His most recent credits include 'Hidden Histories of WWII', 'Lost Temples of Cambodia', the RTS-winning ‘Lost Home Movies of Nazi Germany’, and ‘Prue Leith: Journey with My Daughter’. After a long career in the Flying Squad, veteran copper Bill Galbraith is hanging up his truncheon and saying goodbye to the police force. He's looking forward to a quiet life on civvy street - but his best friend, private investigator Tommy Evans, has other ideas... 
 
In The King of Diamonds, Galbraith's enjoying a peaceful retirement in the countryside when Tommy calls him up with a job offer. The photo was part of a parcel addressed to a retired criminal lawyer, which also contained bearer bonds, a list of jewellery worth £750,000 and a letter threatening the life of a man named Paul Carson. The crime the package tells of has yet to be discovered - can Galbraith root it out?

Now, for the first time, some of these forgotten gems have been brought to life, fully realised as vivid, cinematic radio productions. The White Hotel, one of seven 'unmade movies' available on audio, centres around circus performer Lisa, who visits famous Berlin psychoanalyst Dr Probst to discover the cause of her mysterious breast and pelvic pains. Reading her sexually-charged journal, Probst concludes that the answer lies in her past. But then Lisa reveals her unsettling premonitions - 'I see what is going to happen. And what is going to happen cannot be endured.' Is her trauma really the result of childhood memories, or a dark vision of the future? 
 
Lauded for his groundbreaking TV dramas, Dennis Potter also wrote several acclaimed screenplays, including Gorky Park. The White Hotel was taken up by numerous directors, from Bertolucci to David Lynch, with actors including Barbra Streisand and Meryl Streep slated to star - but the project defeated them all. Now, directed by Jon Amiel, who worked with Potter on The Singing Detective, this haunting, hallucinatory drama has finally found an audience. Anne-Marie Duff (His Dark Materials) stars as Lisa, with Bill Paterson (Fleabag) as Probst and Simon McBurney (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) as the narrator. It is preceded by a 15-minute documentary, The Long Road to the White Hotel, telling the story of the many failed attempts to film Thomas's novel and the making of the radio production.

A master of the psychological crime genre, Patricia Highsmith is most famous for her quintet of bestselling 'Ripley' novels, and her groundbreaking thriller Strangers on a Train (notably adapted as a classic film by Alfred Hitchcock). This extensive collection encompasses her best-known works, as well as selected short stories and three programmes about the author herself and her greatest creation, charismatic anti-hero Tom Ripley.

By Jonathan Myerson tells the colourful tale of how Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh took back the nation's oil from the British, and the chaos and conflict that followed. In Looking for Billy by Nigel Williams, a private detective investigates protests against an Alaskan pipeline - and finds out what oil did to the indigenous Inupiat people. The Weapon, by Jonathan Myerson, is a tense, thrilling dramatisation of the 1973 OPEC siege, while Baby Oil, also written by Myerson, is based on real events in the propaganda campaign at the outbreak of the First Gulf War. 
 
In Someone's Making a Killing in Nigeria by Rex Obano, a local businesswoman is caught up in the violent consequences of the Ogoni people's campaign against the oil industry. No Two Days by Joy Wilkinson is a mesmerising maze of stories about risk, passion and deep-sea oil, centred around an ambitious journalist's attempts to investigate the 2010 Deepwater Horizon rig explosion. Behind Closed Doors is a courtroom drama with a difference - it centres around civil law, not criminal. In these nine plays, London barrister Rebecca Nyman takes on cases ranging from workplace harassment to the sensitive, secret trial of a terrorist and a morally complex 'right to die' hearing. 
 
In Series 1, Nyman represents a senior policewoman in a case of sexist bullying at work in 'One of the Lads', while 'Tilting the Odds' sees her helping an equine vet accused of serious professional misconduct. In 'Safe House', a suspected terrorist has his movement and activities severely restricted by the security services - can Nyman clear his name so he can get his life back?

In Series 3's 'Contact', a sperm donor is trying to get a court order to allow him to see 'his' daughter, but Nyman's client, the mother, wants him to keep his distance. In 'Section', the barrister hopes to convince a tribunal that a patient who has spent seven years in a secure mental hospital is fit to be released. And in 'Protection', Rebecca represents a man whose wife has been in a minimally conscious state for over three years - should she be allowed to die? 
 
Series 4 includes 'Life Chances', in which Emily has a history of anorexia but is refusing treatment. Should she be force fed? In 'Best Interests', a divorced Charedi Jewish mother has come to the Family Courts to stop her ex-husband changing their children's schools. 'More than Kissing', sees The Court of Protection decide if an 18-year-old with learning difficulties should be allowed to have sex; and in 'Mediation', Maud and Martin's father has died and left his whole estate to a 22-year-old dog walker. Can they challenge the will? Finally, in 'The Balance of Probabilities', a couple fight to get their baby daughter back following the death of their baby son.

Sapna Sinha is a sales assistant in a TV showroom in New Delhi. As the sole breadwinner in the family, she works hard to support her widowed mother and younger sister Neha. All she has to do is pass seven tests - rites of passage, designed to gauge her mettle as a leader.

Inspector Alia Khan is a tough, determined female cop struggling to make her mark in a male-dominated world. As she fights to uncover crime and corruption, she must also battle the endemic sexism of the police force, and the patronising, chauvinist attitudes of her boss and colleagues - as well as dealing with her own personal demons. 
 
In Series 1, landed with a new partner, she investigates a rescued baby, a missing husband, a child prostitution ring and strange goings-on at a psychiatric hospital. When a glamour model is found dead in a five-star hotel, she sets out on the trail of Bollywood's leading heart-throb, and uncovers murder, political scandal - and the truth about her policeman father's death. 
 
In Series 2, the disgraced police inspector has just been released from jail. Seeking a life of obscurity, she gets a job as a receptionist in a run-down Mumbai hotel. But when a serial killer starts operating on the rooftop, Alia is called in. Paired up with incompetent Inspector Ratna Shinde, she soon realises that the murderer is trying to communicate with her through the victims themselves... 
 
Series 3 finds Alia going undercover after suspicions are raised about a young woman's death. When Nyla Ansari is found in a bathtub in her parents' home, a bottle of pills beside her, it looks like suicide. Then a video is discovered, made by Nyla a year before. In it, she claims her father, a wealthy Indian businessman, was going to kill her. Posing as a newly married couple, Alia and her male colleague Junaid Qureshi move into the flat next door. Their mission: befriend Nyla's family, friends and servants, and find out the truth...

Roguish Londoner Milkie leaves a glittering society gala to do a favour for glamorous actress Beth Williams. But no good deed goes unpunished, as Milkie soon discovers when an unexpected trip to the Welsh mountains sees him embroiled in a murderous conspiracy. 
 
Nationalism is running riot in this corner of the country, and the local villages and towns have been rocked by arson and bloodshed. Breweries and newspaper offices have been torched, and now an old lady has been brutally beaten, her house ransacked. Suspicion falls on a group of fanatics called The Soldiers of the Red Dragon - but could someone else be behind the attack on Valmai, and if so, what's their endgame? 
 
Milkie's out of his depth in this harsh landscape. He doesn't speak Welsh, the locals don't trust him and he doesn't know what he's getting into. But his attraction to Beth compels him to seek the truth - and soon it's not just terrorism and violence he's dealing with, but political corruption reaching right to the very top... 
 
Written by Nigel Baldwin (The Tree of Liberty), Burnt stars Dennis Waterman as reluctant hero Milkie. It is narrated by The Teller (Ray Smith), whose breaking of the fourth wall to address Milkie gives the story a unique and surprising slant, and its predominantly Welsh cast adds to the authenticity and atmosphere of this gripping Celtic noir.

A small town in Galloway, on the south-west coast of Scotland. A house strangely unchanged since 1941. A dead nurse. And a lawyer with one million pounds in his bank account - and no idea how it got there... 
 
Peter Calman is in trouble. His legal firm is on the brink of bankruptcy, his secretary's handed in her notice and his bank manager has cut off his credit. Just when he thinks things can't get any worse, his ex-girlfriend Jenny calls, worried about her friend Tim Leighton. She's received a note, supposedly sent by him from an exclusive private hospital - but Tim is a penniless hermit, and illiterate. 
 
Though the hospital denies all knowledge of Tim, Jenny's sure they're lying - and the mysterious caller on Peter's answerphone agrees. But before he can meet her, she's killed in a hit and run. Suspicion falls on Peter - and when a new German client arrives in town, offering him vast sums to buy a local cottage, the mutterings grow louder. And then Peter's office is ransacked... 
 
As the mystery deepens, Peter's investigations take him to moonlit Dungrennan Bay...

BBC radio productions of the finest works of Wilkie Collins: sensation novelist, early master of the mystery story, and pioneer of detective fiction 
 
Wilkie Collins was one of Victorian England's best-loved and best-selling authors, and a crime fiction pioneer. His enthralling 'sensation novels' such as The Woman in White paved the way for today's thrillers, and his tour de force The Moonstone is one of the first, and greatest, modern detective stories. 
 
This collection features dramatisations of these two masterpieces, with star casts including Toby Stephens (The Woman in White) and John Sharp (The Moonstone). Also included are adaptations of three of Collins' other major novels: No Name, The Law and the Lady and The Haunted Hotel, starring Sophie Thompson, Abigail Docherty and Henry Lloyd respectively. 
 
Collins was a prolific short story writer, and included here are a number of his shorter tales, such as a full-cast dramatisation of the ghost story 'Mad Monkton', starring Gary Bond, and readings of five tales of suspense: 'The Dream Woman' (read by David Suchet), 'The Biter Bit' (read by John Rowe), 'A Terribly Strange Bed' (read by Paul Daneman), 'The Stolen Letter' (read by Garard Green) and 'The Dead Hand' (read by Peter Marinker). Plus, the darkly comic 'Mrs Badgery' is read by Christopher Harper, while Ronald Pickup reads the murder mystery 'Who Killed Zebedee?', taken from the 1887 short story collection Little Novels. There are also dramatisations of five additional Little Novels tales: 'Miss Jeromette and the Clergyman', 'Mr Marmaduke and the Minister', 'Miss Bertha and the Yankee', 'Miss Morris and the Stranger' and 'Mr Percy and the Prophet', all starring Ronald Pickup as Wilkie Collins. 
 
A lifelong friend of Charles Dickens, Collins collaborated with him on several works including 'A House to Let', which was co-written by Collins, Dickens, Elizabeth Gaskell and Adelaide Anne Proctor. Marcia Warren stars in an adaptation of this exciting tale of secrets and intrigue. 
 
Finally, in Night Waves: The Woman in White, Matthew Sweet joins Simon Callow, Kate Summerscale, Paul Lewis and Lisa Appignanesi to discuss the groundbreaking novel that catapulted Collins to literary stardom, exploring its lasting influence and asking how it stands up today.
