At Penguin Random House we connect your story with readers everywhere.

We want books to reflect everyone in our society, and to publish the stories which aren’t often told.

That's why we launched WriteNow. Through WriteNow we want to find, mentor and publish new writers from communities under-represented on the nation’s bookshelves. This includes writers from BAME (Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic) or LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer) communities, writers who have a disability, or come from a socio-economically marginalised background.

We’re on the lookout for exciting new voices writing in all genres, whether you’re penning a romantic novel or a non-fiction exploration of personal development, and writing for all ages including for children and young adults.

In 2018, for the first time, we're extending our search to illustrators of children's picture books.

To apply, you need to be resident in the UK and over 18 at the point of application.

What’s on offer?

In 2018 we will invite 150 writers and illustrators to one of three insight days in London (Saturday 8 September), Liverpool (Saturday 15 September) and Nottingham (Saturday 29 September).

During the day you'll hear everything you need to know about getting published from authors, illustrators, literary agents and Penguin Random House experts - as well as getting one-to-one feedback on your book from one of our editors and designers.

After getting to know you and your work, we'll ask 10 exceptional new voices to join our year-long mentoring programme.  While there are no guarantees, ultimately we would love to publish these 10 writers and illustrators.

Taking part in WriteNow is completely free.

What impact has WriteNow had so far?

Now in its third year, to date WriteNow has welcomed 300 writers to 6 regional events. 98% of writers have said that participating in WriteNow boosted their confidence as a writer.

So far, 23 exceptional writers have joined our mentoring programme and 4 writers on the programme have been offered publishing deals (and counting).

Click here to watch Charlene Allcott talking about her experience on the mentoring programme. Her book – The Reinvention of Martha Ross - will be published in July.
