On May 25, 1983, Star Wars cemented its legacy as the greatest movie franchise of all time with the release of Return of the Jedi. In honor of the fortieth anniversary, forty storytellers re-create an iconic scene from Return of the Jedi through the eyes of a supporting character, from heroes and villains, to droids and creatures. Olivie Blake (Author) 
Alexene Farol Follmuth, also known under the pen name Olivie Blake, is a lover and writer of stories, many of which involve the fantastic, the paranormal, or the supernatural, but not always. More often, her works revolve around the collective experience, what it means to be human (or not), and the endlessly interesting complexities of life and love. Under her Olivie byline, she is the New York Times and Sunday Times bestselling author of The Atlas Six. Her other books include The Atlas Paradox and viral literary romance Alone With You in the Ether. Alexene lives and works in Los Angeles with her husband and goblin prince/toddler, where she is generally tolerated by her rescue pit bull. 
 
Saladin Ahmed (Author) 
Saladin Ahmed was born in Detroit and raised in a working-class, Arab American enclave in Dearborn, Michigan. His short stories have been nominated for the Nebula and Campbell awards, and have appeared in Year’s Best Fantasy and numerous magazines, anthologies, and podcasts, as well as being translated into five foreign languages. Throne of the Crescent Moon is his first novel. He lives near Detroit with his wife and twin children. 
 
Charlie Jane Anders (Author) 
Charlie Jane Anders is an Hugo award-winning author and podcast host. Most recently, she wrote the young adult Unstoppable trilogy: Victories Greater Than Death, Dreams Bigger Than Heartbreak, and Promises Stronger Than Darkness. She's also the author of the short story collections Even Greater Mistakes, and Never Say You Can't Survive , as well as other books including The City in the Middle of the Night and All the Birds in the Sky. She's also won the Nebula, Sturgeon, Lambda Literary, Crawford and Locus Awards. She co-created Escapade, a transgender superhero, for Marvel Comics and wrote her into the long-running New Mutants comic. With Annalee Newitz, she co-hosts the podcast Our Opinions Are Correct. 
 
Fran Wilde (Author) 
Fran Wilde is an award-winning author and poet. Her first novel, the high-flying fantasy Updraft, was published by Tor in 2015, and won a Nebula and Compton Crook Award. Her debut Middle Grade novel, Riverland, won the 2019 Nebula, was named an NPR Best Book of 2019, and was a Lodestar finalist. Her novels and short stories have been finalists for six Nebula Awards, a World Fantasy Award, four Hugo Awards, four Locus Awards, and a Lodestar. Her nonfiction appears in publications including The Washington Post, The New York Times, NPR, and Tor.com. Her poetry has appeared in Fireside Fiction, The Marlboro Review, Articulate, and Poetry Baltimore. Fran holds an MFA in poetry and an MA in information architecture and interaction design. 
 
Mary Kenney (Author) 
Mary Kenney is a Senior Writer at Insomniac Games and teaches narrative design at Indiana University. She is currently writing Marvel's Wolverine and previously worked on Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Mary studied game design at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. She was an award-winning journalist with bylines in The New York Times, Salon, and Kotaku. When she's not reading a historical fiction novel, writing a script, or playing an RPG, you'll find her fussing over my houseplants, trying to conquer a Great British Baking Show recipe, or running laps as an excuse to blare Broadway musicals.

A Moon Knight & Venom Story

What If. . .  Marc Spector Was Host to Venom?

So many worlds, so little time. Infinite possibilities, creating infinite realities. Long have I watched Marc Spector cheat death in the name of the Egyptian god Khonshu. But…what if Moon Knight was subsumed by a Venom from another universe? 
 
Marc Spector is used to voices in his head. He’s used to waking up disoriented, unsure what his alters, Jake and Steven, might have been up to. He’s used to having an Egyptian god command him as Moon Knight, his avatar of justice and revenge. What he’s not used to: staring into the face of a literal, out-of-body doppelganger. 
 
Another Marc, crash-landed from an alternate reality, begging for help? Yeah, that is a new one, even for him. 
 
But before he can really process anything beyond Khonshu’s incessant alarm bells, it becomes clear this other Marc didn’t travel solo. Some kind of alien — a symbiote named Venom— casts off its current host and begins to merge with Marc, forcing Khonshu away from his chosen champion and claiming Moon Knight for its own. The formerly stark white suit that struck fear into the hearts of criminals now looms as a jet-black shadow over friends and foes alike. Marc’s lethal prowess fueled by Venom’s penchant for violence carves a trail of chaos as they comb through the vigilante’s torturous past. 
 
Yet a sliver of hope remains: Finally free of Venom’s control, the other Jake and Steven re-gain consciousness to find themselves in a strange reality, without their Marc, but with a strange bird-like god insisting that “they will do.” Desperate, lost, and running out of time, the pair make a deal: become Khonshu’s new avatar to track Venom’s path of destruction, save this universe, and just maybe figure out a way back to their own.

With the threat against the Barsha clan still shrouded in mystery, the pair has no choice but to leverage the chaos and disappear. They find sanctuary in the anonymity of the underworld, building their reputation among scoundrels, bounty hunters, and crime syndicates. But when their latest score gives the first real clue in years to who sent ND-5 after Jaylen’s family, their biggest opportunity presents a new kind of risk.
