A Killer in the Family

'Gripping, propulsive and deliciously twisty' ANGIE KIM, NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author of HAPPINESS FALLS

'Sleek, propulsive, and packed with twisted family dynamics: Think SUCCESSION meets CRAZY RICH ASIANS' KARIN TANABE, author of A WOMAN OF INTELLIGENCE

Good-natured but naïve, Mumbai party boy Ali Azeem is drifting through life. Then he is introduced to the Khan sisters: pretty and marriageable Maryam and sexy, mercurial, off-the-rails Farhan. They are the daughters of Abbas Khan, the formidable immigrant patriarch of a glittering property empire, who has succeeded in making New York City his playground – at any cost.

When Ali meets the sisters, he is instantly intrigued by the life of luxury a marriage with Maryam promises him. But his connection to her seductive, unpredictable sister is instant…

Two years later, Ali and his wife retreat to one of the family’s mansions, as she comes to terms with the shocking disappearance of her troubled older sister. What Maryam doesn’t realise is that Farhan’s whereabouts is just one of the secrets Ali has been keeping… and another is the body buried six feet underground at the edge of the family estate.

A caper, social satire, and gripping thriller rolled into one, A Killer in the Family is a wild ride through the streets of Mumbai and New York City. Told in an electric, unforgettable voice, it probes the dark underbelly of the American Dream – leading its reader through a dizzying maze of lies, corruption and murder.

A gripping, propulsive thriller that weaves a cutthroat family battle over a business empire (à la Succession) with a heart-pounding hunt for a notorious serial killer. Amin Ahmad takes us into the glittering world of an ultra-wealthy Indian American dynasty for a thought-provoking interrogation of the dark side of power, ambition, and the American dream. The deliciously twisty plot will have you reading - and guessing - late into the night!
