Television

Watch your favourite books come to life on screen

We bring loved characters to the screen through a range of animated and live-action TV programmes and films that reach global audiences by reinventing our classic brands and stories and developing new ones to provide inspirational content. Penguin Random House Children’s UK not only invests in content, but works with best-in-class partners to help bring our stories to life through co-production, option agreements and licensed rights agreements. We have now co-produced and co-owned three TV series and two films, and we are continuing to work on a number of new projects.

Our partners include broadcasters, producers and distributors, plus an extensive network of the world's leading film and TV production companies.

Our teams combine creative talent with a deep understanding of the film and TV industry. They draw upon the ideas of our authors, illustrators, publishers, editors, designers, digital specialists and marketing teams to take ideas beyond the book.

Peter Rabbit

S1 / S2 104 x 11” + 5 x 22” Specials

Peter Rabbit is based on a classic British character created by Beatrix Potter. His adventures are set in her beloved English Lake District, where the show follows mischievous, charming Peter Rabbit as he overcomes obstacles, outwits predators and avoids danger. Peter wants to grow up to be just like his late father and carries his journal (a guide on how to be a good rabbit) on his adventures with his friends, Cousin Benjamin Bunny and new character Lily Bobtail.

The new adaptation combines the thrill of Indiana Jones, the camaraderie of Harry Potter, the wit of Fantastic Mr Fox and the adventure of Peter Pan, fused with the Dangerous Book For Boys. The series is supported by an exciting range of books and merchandise and has aired globally with best-in-class broadcasters in each market including CBeebies in the UK, Nickelodeon in the USA, ABC in Australia, Super RTL in Germany and France Television in France, as well as through other digital platforms. Most notably it was the first non-Chinese co-produced show to air on Chinese state television where it can also be seen on over 14 IPTV stations across the country. Comprising 104 episodes over two series, plus five specials, Peter Rabbit has proved a firm favourite with children and parents around the world. In 2014, Peter Rabbit won three daytime Emmy Awards and was nominated for a further five.

Puffin Rock

Puffin Rock is an animated preschool series for 3-5-year-olds, which follows the adventures of Oona, her little brother Baba and their family and friends on an enchanting and wild Irish island, created with twice-Oscar-nominated animation studio Cartoon Saloon, and Northern Irish media company Dog Ears.

Puffin Rock is our first-ever TV-only story brand. Each gentle seven-minute episode, narrated by Irish actor Chris O’Dowd, follows Oona and Baba as they explore the island, make friends and learn about nature.

Various broadcasters, including Nick Jr UK, RTE Ireland, NRK Norway, SVT Sweden and ABC Australia and Netflix in the USA.

Topsy and Tim

S1 / S2 60 x 11” + S3 10 x 11”

Topsy and Tim have been helping young children and parents to navigate the world of first experiences since the books were first published in the 1960s, but they are now entertaining a whole new generation of preschoolers in their own live-action TV series.

Staying true to its roots, the show was conceived as a soap opera for preschoolers with each episode focusing on a key event in the twins' lives and allowing children to see their own lives reflected back at them. This is truly big drama inspired by the small stuff in little people’s lives.
